Biogas Technology and its Implementation

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has been supporting programmes for promoting biogas as a clean fuel for domestic cooking, off-grid and grid power generation and bio-CNG for transport applications. Biogas generation from agriculture waste is also emerging as potential area not only for biogas generation but also as climate change concerns in view of recent environmental risk due to burning of paddy straw in the farms of Haryana and Punjab states. In addition, recent studies showed algae as 3rd gen biomass feedstock derived through wastewater treatment has the potential to integrate with biogas production. Thus, there is a strong need to take up research and development initiatives for technology development and demonstration to integrate biogas technology for biogas generation and up-gradation for heat and power applications and bio-fertilizer for sustainable energy and agriculture development.
A hand-on training will be provided to the participants about various techniques used for biogas technology, CBG, and bioCNG. The experts will be invited from R&D/ Academic/ Financing Institutions, Ministry and Industries for delivering lecture in the training programme.
Objectives
- To create awareness, need and prospects of biogas technology in India
- To introduce the importance of biogas and various aspects of biogas plant design, operation and maintenance.
- To enlightens the various factors for bio-methane enhancements, Consortium development
- Integration of algal technology with anaerobic digestion and biogas production.
- Utilization of enriched bio-methane of bio-CNG quality and standards for off-grid and grid power generation
- To familiarize with policy making and financing for industrial projects for biogas production and up-gradation
- To expose latest technological advancement in context of biogas production, enrichment and bottling.
