Budget 2026 Expectations Highlights: India Inc wants bold reforms from Nirmala Sitharaman & Co to fuel next growth cycle

Synopsis

Union Budget 2026 Expectations Highlights: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to table the Union Budget 2026–27 on Sunday, February 1. Idustry leaders are calling for a pragmatic mix of reforms that can cushion global uncertainties while addressing domestic imperatives such as AI-led growth, manufacturing expansion, and energy transition.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Budget on February 1, marking her record ninth consecutive Budget, the longest streak by any finance minister. All eyes are in announcements on allocations across sectors for the new fiscal year, income tax policy, and relevant measures to diversify foreign export.

Budget 2026 also comes at a moment of severe global uncertainty. In the past year, ties have strained with India’s largest trading partner, the US, which has imposed a hefty 50% tariff on Indian exporters and a freefall of the Indian rupee that kept touching new lows.

Domestically, leaders across industries are seeking GST rationalisation and policy support while the working professional will have their ears peeled for any tax relief.

As far as the market is concerned, investment firms and asset managers have sought tax relief on long-term capital gains and urged govt to avoid transaction tax hikes.

Announcements made in the Budget speech on February 1 will signal where the government’s priorities lies in the new fiscal year (April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027) as well as impact individuals and businesses alike.

Key dates to note:

  • January 31, 2026 (Saturday): On the eve of the Budget Day, the government will release the Economic Survey, an annual report that sums up trends and performance in the past year and outlines priorities for the coming year.
  • February 1, (Sunday): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will deliver the Budget speech at 11 am.
  • January 28 (Wednesday) – April 2 (Thursday): The Budget session of the parliament will take place in two phases.

This live blog tracks all key developments, expectations, policy signals and reactions in the run-up to Budget Day, as India prepares for one of the most closely watched Budgets in recent years.

Union Budget 2026 News Live: Indian Biogas Association seeks higher CBG incentives, carbon market push

India Budget News Live Updates: As India approaches the Union Budget 2026, the biogas and compressed biogas (CBG) sector is seeking stronger policy support to position itself as a core pillar of India’s clean energy transition and its 2070 Net Zero goals.

“Union Budget 2026 must decisively recognise biogas and CBG as central to India’s green growth agenda. With CBG project capital costs rising by over 50% across the value chain since the introduction of the CFA scheme, an urgent recalibration of incentives is needed,” said Gaurav Kedia, Chairman, Indian Biogas Association. He called for Central Financial Assistance to be enhanced to at least ₹6 crore per 4.8 TPD of CBG capacity, with the project cap raised to ₹25 crore and backed by a dedicated ₹10,000 crore corpus to enable projects up to 20 TPD and attract large-scale private investment.
