IBA discussed with MNRE on way forward to formulate standards for Biogas plants

A meeting with MNRE was organised by Indian Biogas Association (iba) in August which also featured participation from German Biogas Association (GBA) and Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). iba is an existing member in MNRE’s expert panel of Bio gas steering committee. The agenda of the meeting was to devise a roadmap for standards formulation for medium and large scale Biogas plants. It was unanimously agreed by attendees of the meeting that the present available standards are basically meant for small scale bio-gas plants. It’s essential to formulate standards with comprehensive outlook to provide necessary impetus to the sector and take it to the next level.

MNRE is positive about working with IBA with due facilitation from GBA in taking the standard formulation process forward. In the meeting, GBA’s MD Mr. Manuel Maciejczyk presented on the existing status of standards in Germany and its learning curve during the journey in last couple of decades. He stated that the journey hasn’t been smooth all the way through and learnings from mistakes done by Germany should help other countries to have a head start. Manuel is also currently working on the publishing German safety standards in English and he is part of the worldwide Biogas group, working on ISO Biogas standards.
