The critical findings of the status-quo study were presented at a workshop “Biogas in India – Status-quo and the Way Ahead” to key stakeholders on February 7, 2018, at Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI), Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The workshop was organized byIndian Biogas Association (IBA) in collaboration with German Biogas Association (GBA), German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ), and GERMI.
The event witnessed participation from different stakeholders from government, research institutes, and the private sector. The event was mainly divided into two sessions. In the first session, key findings of the Status-quo study were presented by Mr. Andre Brosowski from DBFZ. This presentation was followed up by a presentation on “Stakeholders and Framework” by Mr. Kay Schaubach from DBFZ, who joined the workshop from Germany via Skype.
Post lunch, the second session focused on the group work of the participants in the workshop. The idea was to collect the key points for the “Way Ahead” of the study. The participants were divided into five main groups to discuss on five topics, namely Collecting Data, Winning the Fuel Market, Supporting the Industry, Fostering Cooperation, and Managing Waste. Groups had long discussions, which were moderated by the representatives of IBA, GBA, and GERMI. At the end of the session, key findings of the discussions were presented and followed up by a voting session. All participants were asked to vote voluntarily across all the topics on an anonymous basis to decide the priority of the key findings. It was a unique experience for the participants and they got highly engrossed in all the sessions right from the commencement of the workshop to till the voting session.
The day concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Antje Kramer (GBA) and Mr. Akhilesh Magal (GERMI). A comprehensive report of the study shall be published in the upcoming month, which will be available for IBA members and a shorter version of the report will be available for all Biogas enthusiasts.
